City Of Tucson Offers Tips for Monsoon Season

The city of Tucson's Operation Splash program offers 24/7 barricades and self-serve sandbags to protect residents from flooding.

TUCSON, AZ —Monsoon season has finally arrived in Tucson, and the city’s Operation Splash program is delivering barricades and offering free sandbags to protect residents from flooded areas. Operation Splash began on June 15 and will conclude in mid-September.

As part of the program, the City of Tucson’s street maintenance crews will be delivering barricades to dip crossings and flooded washes throughout the city as the rain gathers. The crews will be on call day and night until September to install barricades. After the flooding recedes, the crews will then remove any remaining debris from the area and evaluate the safety of the roadway.

The city is also offering free sandbags to anyone wishing to take matters into their own hands. The self-serve station is open around the clock and is located in the Hi Corbett Field Parking Lot at Reid Park.
