Presidents Day on Monday means most City of Tucson employees have the day off. Here's how that affects your trash and recycling pickup.
TUCSON, AZ — Monday is Presidents Day, which brings local and federal government closures. Most City of Tucson employees have the day off to take advantage of Presidents Day sales online or at the mall, or to spend time relaxing with any friends and family fortunate enough to have the day off from work or school. For city residents, Presidents Day 2020 in Tucson also brings trash and recycling schedule changes. Here's what you need to know.
Commercial and residential trash and recycling collection for Tucson residents will not occur on Presidents Day, but will be delayed by one day.
If residents really want to get rid of their garbage on Presidents Day, however, the Los Reales Landfill at 7161 S. Craycroft Road, Tucson, will be open.

Although City of Tucson offices are closed on Presidents Day, residents can leave the City's customer service division a message at 520-791-3171 or complete a service request online. Customers doing so will be contacted by a City employee "no later than the next business day," City officials reported. Customer service is also available 8 a.m. to 3 p.m. Feb. 22.

Presidents Day was originally created back in 1885 to commemorate George Washington's birthday, but the holiday was expanded over time to honor all U.S. presidents. The date was also moved to the third Monday in February, back in 1971, according to history.com.
