Don't Fall For Coronavirus Scams: Tucson Police

Tucson police say residents noted a Facebook post which talked about a false coronavirus-related incident, providing a possibly bad link.

TUCSON, AZ — Tucson police are warning the public about scams related to the new coronavirus in which scammers try to get victims to click malicious links.

The warning, posted on the Tucson Police Department's Facebook page, says there was a suspicious post on the Rita Ranch Forum saying a large fight had occurred, that there were casualties of the coronavirus and that SWAT had to intervene, "none of which occurred."

A link was provided with the post, and "may have been used to download a virus or capture personal information from those who clicked on the link," police say.

Tucson police also said people are pretending to be members of the World Health Organization or the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention, trying to get people to buy fake coronavirus cures, N95 masks and test kits. "Please exercise caution as criminals are known to capitalize off of current events, confusion and fear," police said.
