TUCSON, AZ – Area newbies don’t have to live in or near Tucson long before they hear about two things: the residents’ disdain for ASU, and their love of Eegee’s fast food restaurants. But Tucsonians aren’t the only Eegee’s restaurant fans. Food & Wine magazine recently named the Tucson-born fast-food chain Arizona’s best fast food restaurant.

Fan favorites include the restaurant’s grinder sandwich and ranch French fries. And then there’s the drink that has inspired most of Tucson's population: the “Eegee,” a slushy ice drink containing real bits of fruit. It’s so popular that it is even sold in large buckets suited to a barbecue or party.

When Eegee’s 24 Tucson locales (plus 1 Casa Grande location) were sold to a New York investment firm in October, numerous Eegee’s-proud Tucson residents had doubts the food’s authenticity would survive. But the 47-year-old business still draws in Tucson residents just like old times, azcentral.com reports. Read more at azcentral.com.
