Inmate Dies In Apparent Attempt To Take Own Life: Sheriff

TUCSON, AZ — An inmate died Sunday at a nearby hospital, two days after they were found unconscious in his cell in an apparent attempt to take his own life, the Pima County Sheriff's Department said.

Prison staff at the Pima County Detention Complex tried to resuscitate the inmate, but they were transported to a nearby hospital, the department said. The inmate was stabilized upon arrival, but died two days later, authorities said.

The department's Criminal Investigations Division has launched an investigation into the inmate's death, the department said.
