Pima Animal Care Center In Need Of More Volunteers

Pima Animal Care Center said is in need of dog walkers and greeters who can help guide folks around the shelter and answer questions.

TUCSON, AZ — Are you an animal person who is looking for the perfect opportunity to help out in the community? If you said "yes," then Pima Animal Care Center may be the perfect fit. They are currently in need of an extra helping hand.

"PACC really needs dog walkers and greeters who can help guide folks around the shelter, answering questions that folks might have so that the adoption counselors can focus on adoptions," the animal center tweeted Friday.

According to the animal center, it relies on more than 1,000 volunteers who contribute a more than 80,000 hours of volunteer service annually. That’s the equivalent of 40, full-time staff members.

"We could not save more than 90 percent of the pets who come through our doors without our incredible volunteer team," the center writes on its website. "If you’re outgoing and passionate about helping people adopt pets, we have a job for you!"

Pima Animal Care Center is in need of volunteers to fill many duties. They include:

  • Medium and large dog adoption counselors. Help families find their perfect match among the 400 or more dogs waiting for new homes. Must be able to safely walk strong dogs of 50 pounds or more.
  • Big dog play group assistants. We give shelter dogs much-needed exercise and enrichment every day in doggie play groups. These volunteers help us get 80 to 100 dogs into play group every day!
  • Medical clinic assistants. Help with care of critically sick and injured pets as well as orphaned puppies and kittens. We’re always looking for people with medical expertise to help with these jobs and some of our volunteers are doctors and nurses.
  • Greeters and adoption specialists. Give shelter tours and help people find their way around and meet adoptable cats and dogs.
  • Outreach and education volunteers. Spread the word about PACC, attend outreach events and welcome school and community groups to PACC.
  • Enrichment volunteers. Provide socialization and enrichment to shy or scared pets or pets who are struggling with the stress of confinement.
