Pima Animal Care Center Offers Free Veterans Day Microchipping

Veterans can get their pet microchipped free on Veterans Day at the Pima Animal Care Center. Veterans can also adopt pets free this weekend.

Also this weekend, civilians' pet adoptions are $11 when they donate an item from PACC’s wish list to benefit the Veterans Day microchipping clinic.

TUCSON, AZ — The Pima Animal Care Center in Tucson is offering free pet microchipping for veterans' pets on Veterans Day Monday from 8 a.m. to noon. Though PACC is closed on Veterans Day, the “drive-thru microchip clinic” will be held in the overflow parking lot near the PACC building.

The microchip clinic is the shelter’s way of giving back to veterans, according to PACC Director of Animal Services Kristen Hassen-Auerbach. “This is just a tiny way for us to say thank you to veterans for their service. We are excited to be able to offer free microchips, which will help ensure if pets are ever lost, we can get them back to their owner,” she said in a news release.

The microchipping clinic will also offer pet supplies such as food, water bowls and leashes. And for the pet owners: donuts.

This Friday through Sunday before the Veterans Day clinic, PACC is also letting veterans and their families adopt animals free of charge. On those same three days, civilians can adopt a pet for $11 if they bring in or purchase at the shelter an item from PACC’s wish list. All wish list items will then be donated to the Veterans Day microchipping clinic. The wish list is kept near the register at the shelter.

Pima Animal Care Center is open Monday through Friday from noon to 7 p.m. and on Saturdays and Sundays from 10 a.m. to 5 p.m. The shelter is located at 4000 N. Silverbell Road in Tucson. All adopted animals are neutered or spayed and have been microchipped and vaccinated. A free veterinary visit is also provided after adoption.
