Pima County Budget: See What's Proposed For Southern Arizona
Pima County Administrator Chuck Huckelberry's proposed 2022 budget includes increased funding for childhood education, roads and more.

TUCSON, AZ — Pima County Administrator Chuck Huckelberry's recommend 2022 fiscal year budget includes increased funding for childhood education, more than 100 miles of road repair and body cameras for local deputies, among other items.
The proposed $2.1 billion budget, which will go before the Pima County Board of Supervisors on May 11 and 12, includes a one-time, $300 million funding requirement of the Public Safety Retirement System fund, the county said.
Additionally, the county's budget reflects $350 million in federal funding for assorted COVID-19 pandemic-related costs.

The budget itself includes more than $500 million in tax levies, which represents a 3.7 percent increase over the 2020 fiscal year, the county said.

- $84 million for road repair and maintenance.
- $52.9 million for road improvement projects, such as the two planned for Houghton Road and the widening of Kolb Road.
- $10 million to fund a program for early childhood education.
- $4.3 million to boost the minimum wage to $15 an hour for all county employees.
- $3.7 million to renovate the former Golden Pin Lanes along Miracle Mile into the Pima County Northwest Service Center.
- $1.1 million to equip all Pima County Sheriff's Department deputies with body cameras.
- An undisclosed amount to the Pima County Public Library District for projects, such as the Sahuarita Library, in addition to expansion efforts at Elias-Mission and Martha Cooper branches.
The Board of Supervisors' schedule on the proposed budget includes holding a tentative budget adoption May 18, with final budget adoption planned for June 22, the county said.
