TUCSON, AZ — Pima County will partner with the Federal Emergency Management Agency to open mobile COVID-19 vaccination units across the region in the coming weeks.

The sites will focus on the hard-hit and hard to reach areas in the Southern Arizona county, with two vaccine sites being set up for three days apiece, based on census data and other factors, the county said.

The first installation will be held at Pima Community College's Desert Vista and West campuses from May 3-5.

From there, the mobile vaccination units will move to Casino Del Sol and Desert Diamond casinos from May 7-9.

After that, the county will hold vaccination sites at Greyhound Park and Wheeler Taft Library from May 11-13, then Rillito Race Track and Curtis Park from May 15-17.

All mobile vaccination unit sites will run from 10 a.m. through 7 p.m., the county said.

“We’re extremely grateful to FEMA for partnering with us on this effort to reach pockets of the community who may not have easy access to this life-saving vaccine,” said County Administrator Chuck Huckelberry. “The ability to offer vaccines during evenings and weekends will enable us to reach folks whose work or school schedules prevent them from getting a vaccine now. With this effort, there’s truly no reason not to roll up your sleeve and get your shot so we can start putting this pandemic behind us.”

The mobile vaccination sites will offer the two-dose Moderna and one-dose Johnson & Johnson COVID-19 vaccine to anyone 18 and older on a first come, first served basis.

Walk-ups are accepted at all mobile vaccination sites, with each unit having capacity to offer 250 vaccinations per day, the county said.

“FEMA is proud to support Pima County’s efforts to improve access to and the equitable distribution of the COVID-19 vaccine,” said FEMA Region 9 Acting Administrator Tammy Littrell. “MVUs meet people where they are, make the vaccination process quick and easy, and get us one step closer to ending this pandemic.”
