Saturday’s Tenth Annual Hunger Walk Helps Tucsonians In Need
The Community Food Bank is hosting its 10th Annual Hunger Walk Saturday, Sept. 14, starting at Sam Lena Park.
TUCSON, AZ – Tucson area residents who want to help feed those in need and get some fresh air can do both at the Community Food Bank’s 10th Annual Hunger Walk this Saturday in Tucson. Registration starts at 7 a.m., with the walk following at 8 a.m. HungerWalk in Tucson begins at the Sam Lena Park at the Kino Sports Complex.
Participants will walk through the food bank’s main warehouse and will pack an emergency food bag, to gain understanding of what the food bank does and offers those in need. Suited to all ages, the 2-mile, 90-minute walk also includes trekking through the organization’s food pantry and gardens while learning about volunteer opportunities. After the event, a light breakfast and healthy snacks are available, as are family entertainment, music, games, activities and more.
Registration can be completed online, by mail, or at the event. Those wanting paper registration forms can call 520-449-8347. Registration fees for the Community Food Bank’s Tucson walk are $25 for individual walkers age 12 and older and for virtual walkers who are not at the event but “join [the event] in spirit,” the food bank’s website explains. The registration fee for a youth walker age 6-11 is $10, while kids age 5 and younger get in free. Bicycles and pets aren’t permitted at the event, but strollers and wheelchairs are. Walk participants can park their vehicles at the Kino Sports Complex, the Adult Probation Office, the Kino Service Center or the Mulcahy YMCA.

So far, the Community Food Bank has raised $123K of its $175K goal. Proceeds from the walk stay in Tucson and will be used in the food bank’s hunger assistance programs.
