TUCSON, AZ — Summer's back in the Grand Canyon State, which means triple-digit temperatures are here to stay.

The National Weather Service's Tucson office expects the Old Pueblo to see high temperatures between 112 and 113 degrees, before cooling off to 109 on Saturday.

Nighttime lows will be between 80 and 82 degrees between now and Saturday, the service said.

The city of Tucson, the Salvation Army and others have set up cooling and hydration centers at all six of the city's wards for those in need of reprieve from the scorching heat.

The city's cooling centers will open to the public on June 18, operating from noon-6 p.m. on any day with temperatures at or above 110 degrees, the city said.

“The safety of our community is always of utmost importance to me, which is why I have requested that the City of Tucson offer air-conditioned cooling centers in convenient locations open to everyone in the community during this heat emergency,” said Mayor Regina Romero in a statement.

Masks will be recommended at the city sites, with reduced capacity to reduce the spread of COVID-19, the city said.
