TUCSON, AZ — A Tucson staple is expanding and putting sustainability at the forefront of its business model.

Eegee's, the local restaurant chain known for its slushies, will open seven new locations in the Tucson area in 2021, the company said. The Landing on Irvington Road will be getting one of the new restaurants in January. No details were disclosed about the six other locations.

At least one of the new buildings will be built entirely out of shipping containers, a new design for the restaurant chain.

“The shipping container prototype has been in the works all year, and we’re very excited to unveil it this fall,” CEO Ron Petty said in a statement. “The look and feel of Eegee’s has evolved, but the menu will continue to feature our classic favorites.”

That menu includes its signature slushies, along with grinder sandwiches, subs, salads, cheesy bacon fries and more.
