Tucson To Hit All-Time Heat Record In 2020

Tucson hit triple digits for the 95th time this year on Thursday, putting the city just a few days away from an all-time heat record.

TUCSON, AZ — Tucson is one day closer to hitting an all-time heat record after Thursday's temperature hit a high of 102 degrees.

It marked the 95th day with triple digit temperatures in 2020, putting the city just a few days shy of a record. The previous record was 99 occurrences of temperatures at or above 100 degrees in 1994.

According to the National Weather Service in Tucson, it is likely that 2020 will beat that record.

"We'll probably manage a few more before we're through," the weather service tweeted Thursday.

Tucson was hit with several excessive heat warnings this summer, with temperatures reaching 113 degrees. It is considered Arizona's hottest summer yet.

This weekend might help Tucson break the 1994 record. According to the National Weather Service, a high of 100 degrees is expected on Saturday and Sunday.
