Tucson Will Help Residents Pay Utility Bills Amid Pandemic

TUCSON, AZ — Tucson residents struggling with the economic hardship brought by the coronavirus pandemic may get some help from the city, according to a news release.

Tucson Mayor Regina Romero and the Tucson City Council have created a new utility assistance program in partnership with Pima County and the community's utility companies. Qualifying utility customers who have experienced financial hardship resulting from the pandemic will be eligible for relief on delinquent charges.

"If you are concerned about your ability to pay any of your utility bills, act now to avoid potential shut-offs, and contact your utility company to make a payment plan to keep the utilities running and to apply for assistance," the city wrote in a statement.

Funds will be awarded on a first-come, first-served basis until the program is exhausted. Those eligible will be awarded up to 50 percent of their bills. Utility customers must live in the city of Tucson or the city of South Tucson.
