Tucson's Casa De Los Ninos Thrift Store Closing After 48 Years
Tucson's Casa de los Ninos thrift store is closing permanently on July 24 after 48 years, citing increased competition and lack of staff.

TUCSON, AZ — One of Tucson's oldest thrift stores is closing its doors for good later this month, due to increasing competition in the marketplace and in finding employees.
Casa de los Ninos thrift stop, which has graced the corner of Mountain Avenue and Prince Road since 1973, will shut its doors for good on July 24, the company said on Thursday.
In a Facebook post, the store's leadership said their decision stemmed from a myriad of forces beyond the company's control.

"The Thrift Store has financially struggled in the last few years as the retail landscape has changed," the post reads. "There is increasingly more competition for both customers and employees, and our model is no longer sustainable."
Casa de los Ninos was founded to help protect Tucson area children from abuse and neglect, creating programs that aimed to shield young Tucsonans from abuse, neglect and crisis.

The organization has helped more than 10,000 children and families each year on average and has provided more than 30,000 hours of mental health and other family services to the community since its founding days.
Anyone looking to support the store while it's operating can do so over the next two weeks, though Casa de los Ninos is no longer accepting donations.
Casa de los Ninos plans on continuing its community outreach programs moving forward, the organization said.
"We are so grateful to our donors, customers, and staff for all of the years of support," the post reads. "We will continue to focus our resources and work on helping children and families in our community through our extensive support services and prevention programs."
