Coronavirus in Altadena: 39 Cases Confirmed
Thursday Los Angeles County reported 55 new deaths, the highest one-day death toll due to the coronavirus so far.
ALTADENA, CA — On Thursday, public health officials reported the highest one-day coronavirus death toll yet for Los Angeles County, with 55 dead in just 24 hours. Now a total of 455 people have died of the new coronavirus across the county, more than double the death toll from just last week.
10,854 cases of the virus have been confirmed county-wide, about 350 more cases than the day before. More than 70,000 people have been tested for the coronavirus, meaning about 11 percent of tests come back positive.
Despite the recent spike in deaths, there has been a slowing in new transmissions of the virus, leading some to wonder when the county could return to business as usual. This week Los Angeles Mayor Eric Garcetti an Gov. Newsom both discussed the idea of reopening some businesses, but say it's too early now to know when that might happen. Currently, the stay-at-home order remains in place through at least May 15.

When businesses do reopen, there will likely still be many restrictions in place. Barbara Ferrer, director of the county Department of Public Health says the county will still mandate safe social distancing, face coverings and better hygiene to prevent the virus from staging a comeback when people are brought together again.
As of Thursday, April 16 the confirmed cases of the new coronavirus in Los Angeles County are spread as follows:
