Hiker who Died on Sam Merrill Trail ID'd

ALTADENA, CA - The coroner's office released the name of a 69- year-old woman who died while hiking on a trail in the Angeles National Forest north of Altadena.

She was 69-year-old Margaret Cihocki of Huntington Beach, according to the coroner's office. An autopsy was pending.

Cihocki was hiking with friends on the Sam Merrill Trail when her she stopped breathing and her heart stopped beating about 12:40 p.m. Sunday, according to Los Angeles County Sheriff's Department.

Bystanders performed CPR for a full hour before Los Angeles County firefighters arrived and pronounced her dead at the scene, deputies said.

Cihocki was almost two miles into the trail when she collapsed, deputies said.
