Neighborhood Watch Spots More Potential Prowlers

Men have been spotted poking around Altadena neighborhoods without a clear reason. Have you seen anything suspicious?

A few days after a Neighborhood Watch member shared she was almost the victim of a break-in and some unfamiliar men may be casing the neighborhood, other residents are sharing similar accounts.

Altadena resident Shawna, who chose not to have her last name shared in this post, sent Patch and her neighbors an email describing the following incidents that allegedly occurred Tuesday. This was in the area of Poppyfields Drive and Marengo Avenue:

At about 10:45 a.m. as we were getting ready to leave the house, [my husband] Marcus observed two men walking up our (long, steep) drive towards the back of our house. He went out front and asked them if he could help them. They stuttered a bit and said they were gardeners looking for "Mr Davis". Marcus asked them what address they were looking for and they had no response. After some more hemming and hawing they walked to a shabby white pick up truck (which may have had one lawnmower in the back but nothing else) and drove away south on Marengo. We immediately called the Altadena Sheriff's Dept to report what had happened and give a description. Unfortunately, it happened too fast for us to get a license plate number too.

The two men were Hispanic and appeared to be in their early to mid thirties. One was heavy set and average height, the other was slimmer and looked to be about 5'4-5'5. One of them was in overalls. Both were wearing baseball caps.

After this happened, Marcus decided he would come home to work and when he arrived back at home at about 11:45 a.m., he saw the same truck on the block and the same two guys across the street on Poppyfields poking around. When they saw him standing outside watching them, they quickly got back into their truck and drove away again.

Our friends and neighbors on Wapello & Marengo also saw two men of similar description on their block today and thought they looked suspect.

While it is unclear what the men were doing Tuesday, they were spotted four blocks away from where last Wednesday’s attempted break-in occurred. Men were also seen last week walking up and down driveways and reportedly driving a white car, though it is unclear if it is the same vehicle.

Incidentally, residential burglaries were the most common crime that occurred on .
