Arcadia Fire Department December Calls
From medical call outs, fires to a person trapped inside of an elevator, your Arcadia Fire Department has been busy at work all month.

ARCADIA, CA — The first half of December has been a busy one for the Arcadia Fire Department. With multiple call-outs and hours of training, here is what your department has done for you this month.
Sunday, December 2nd
At 12:40 p.m., Engine 105 and Rescue Ambulance 105 responded to a medical assist in
the 200 block of North First Avenue. Upon arrival, fire personnel found a 46-year-old
female experiencing chest pain. Paramedics provided advanced life support measures
on scene including oxygen therapy, 12-lead cardiac monitoring, intravenous access,
and drug therapy. The patient was transported to Methodist Hospital of Southern
California for further evaluation and treatment.
Monday, December 3rd
At 11:14 a.m., Engine 105, Engine 106, Truck 105, and Battalion 105 along with units
from Monrovia, Pasadena, and Los Angeles County Fire Departments responded to an
apartment house fire in the 700 block of Arcadia Avenue. Fire crews arrived to find a
fire already out inside an apartment. Investigation determined a refrigerator had
malfunctioned and caught fire. Apartment residents used fire extinguishers to
extinguish the blaze prior to fire department arrival. A wall was opened with an ax and
no fire spread was noted.

Tuesday, December 4th
At 3:33 p.m., Engine 105 and Rescue Ambulance 105 responded to a medical call in
the 400 block of West Duarte Road. Upon arrival, fire personnel found a 65-year-old
female having severe abdominal pain. Paramedics provided advanced life support
measures on scene including intravenous access, 12-lead cardiac monitoring, and
oxygen therapy. The patient was transported to Methodist Hospital of Southern
California for further evaluation and treatment.
Wednesday, December 5th
At 12:08 p.m., Engine 106 responded to an elevator rescue in the 300 block of West
Huntington Drive. Upon arrival, fire crews found one person trapped in a malfunctioning
elevator. The power to the elevator was shut down and an elevator technician
responded and opened the elevator doors. The trapped person was assessed and
released. The elevator was secured and released to building management for service.

Thursday, December 6th
At 5:59 p.m., Engine 106 and Rescue Ambulance 106 responded to the 00 block of
Andrea Lane. Fire personnel arrived to find an elderly female experiencing head, leg,
and back pain after a minor fall. Paramedics provided basic life support measures on
scene including splinting and icing the injuries. The patient was transported to
Methodist Hospital of Southern California for further evaluation and treatment.
Friday, December 7th
At 5:18 p.m., Engine 106 responded to a vehicle fire at the corner of West Huntington
Drive and La Cadena Avenue. Upon arrival, fire crews found a vehicle with smoke
emitting from the engine compartment. Fire personnel used a fire extinguisher to cool
the equipment. The cause of the fire was possibly a faulty alternator.
Saturday, December 8th
At 2:41 p.m., Engine 106 responded to a flooded condition investigation in the 2600
block of South Baldwin Avenue. Fire personnel arrived to find a broken sprinkler head
that had been sheared by a malfunctioning garage door. Fire crews shut off the water
valve to the sprinkler system and restored the fire alarm system. The residence did not
sustain any water damage.
Volunteer Activity
During the reporting period, the Arcadia Fire Department had a total of 104 hours of
volunteer services. Specifically, volunteers from the community donated their time to
assist the Department with administrative, fire prevention, and miscellaneous duties.
Training
During the reporting period, the Arcadia Fire Department conducted a total of 446 hours
of training. Some of the subjects covered were: Hose Evolutions, Ladder Evolutions,
Ventilation Techniques, Salvage and Overhaul Techniques, Tiller Certification,
Defensive Driving, Engine Company Equipment, Search and Rescue, Communications,
EOC Operations, Records Management, Fire Suppression Tactics, Power Tools, Hand
Tools, Truck Operations, Emergency Medical Technician, Paramedic Continuing
Education, Hazardous Materials, Lighting Operations, Rope Rescue, Incident
Command, Pre-Incident Planning, Supervision and Management, and Standard
Operating Guideline Review.
