Chantry Flats Recreation Area Closed for Federal Shutdown

Chantry Flats Recreation Area is closed today due to the federal budget impasse and will continue to be shut down until further notice, according to a message sent out by the Sierra Madre Police Department.

The recreation area is run by the U.S. Forest Service, which like most other federal agencies, is shut down due to Congress not meeting a deadline to fund the federal government.

The road to Chantry Flats will be closed at the lower gate on the edge of the residential area at the top of Santa Anita Drive.

The Angeles National Forest is still open for hiker use and can be accessed via trails off of  U.S. Forest Service operated roads and recreation areas.  The Sierra Madre Police Department noted that Bailey Canyon and Mount Wilson Trail are still open to hikers.
