Coroner IDs Couple In Apparent Murder-Suicide

The couple, guardians of several children, was found dead inside of their San Gabriel Valley home.

COVINA, CA — Two people who died in what police are calling an apparent murder-suicide in their apartment were identified Friday.

Officers went to the 200 block of East Center Street about 4:45 p.m. Wednesday in response to "sounds of an argument and shots fired" and found the couple dead in a locked bedroom, according to the Covina Police Department.

They were identified by the coroner's office as Michael Rivera, 62, and Monica Dominguez, 52. Police said they believe Rivera shot and killed Dominguez, then turned the gun on himself.

The couple lived at the location with their three grandchildren, and they were the legal guardians of the children, said Covina police Sgt. David Rodriguez.

"The juveniles were found safe at a neighbor's residence," Rodriguez said. "No other suspect(s) are being sought for at this time as the incident appears to be a murder-suicide investigation."
A handgun was recovered at the scene.
