Fire Blotter: Motorist Hits Mother and Child

Also, a girl injures her shoulder while participating in a three-legged race.

The Arcadia Fire Department responded to a variety of emergency calls during the week of March 24-30. The following is a breakdown of incident types recorded for this time period:

Two-Vehicle Collision With Injuries

At 2:08 p.m. on March 24, Engine 105, Truck 105, Rescue Ambulance 105, and Battalion 105 responded to traffic collision with a person trapped in the intersection of Camino Real Avenue and Lovell Avenue. Fire crews arrived on scene to find a two-vehicle traffic accident with one vehicle on its side. Truck personnel stabilized one vehicle while additional personnel assessed the conditions of the drivers of the vehicles. One driver required medical aid and was placed in full cerebral spinal precautions and transported to a local hospital.

Medical Assist: Seizure

At 9:13 a.m. on March 25, Engine 106 and Rescue Ambulance 106 responded to a medical assist in the 600 block of West Duarte Road. Upon arrival, fire personnel evaluated a man suffering from an altered mental status, post seizure activity. The patient received advanced life support at the scene: oxygen therapy, 12 lead cardiac monitoring, intravenous access and blood glucose monitoring. The patient was transported to Arcadia Methodist Hospital for further evaluation and treatment.

Medical Assist: Child Suffers Seizure

At 3:06 p.m. on March 26, Engine 107 and Rescue Ambulance 105 responded to a medical emergency in the 100 block of East Foothill Boulevard. Fire crews arrived on scene to find a 7-year-old in seizure. Paramedics assessed and transported the patient to the closest pediatric medical center.

Medical Assist: Woman Suffers Seizure in Dental Chair

At 5:20 p.m. on March 27, Engine 106 and Rescue Ambulance 106 responded to a medical assist at a dental office in the 1000 block of West Huntington Drive. Fire crews arrived to find a 25-year-old woman who experienced a seizure while seated in a dental chair for minor adjustments to her orthodontic device. Paramedics provided advanced life support measures on scene: 12 lead electrocardiogram, intravenous access and oxygen therapy. The patient was transported to Arcadia Methodist Hospital for further evaluation.

Child With Head Injury

At 10:07 a.m. on March 28, Engine 106 and Rescue Ambulance 106 responded to a minor trauma in the 400 block of West Lemon Avenue. Fire crews arrived on scene to find a 6-year-old child with a head injury. Paramedics assessed and placed the patient in full cerebral spinal precautions prior to transport to the closest pediatric trauma center.

Motorist Hits Mother and Child

At 1:05 p.m. on March 28, Truck 105 and Rescue Ambulance 105 responded to a traffic collision involving an automobile and two pedestrians in the intersection of Baldwin Avenue and Fairview Avenue. Fire crews arrived on scene to find two patients, a mother and her child. Paramedics assessed both patients and placed the child in full cerebral spinal precautions due to a possible head injury. Both patients were transported to the closest pediatric trauma center.

Girl Injures Shoulder in Three-Legged Race

At 8:44 a.m. on March 29, Engine 105 and Rescue Ambulance 106 responded to a medical assist in the 0000 block of South First Avenue. Fire crews arrived to find a 13-year-old girl who injured her shoulder while participating in a three-legged race. Paramedics provided advanced life support measures on scene: 12 lead electrocardiogram, intravenous access, a sling to immobilize her shoulder and oxygen therapy. The patient was transported to Arcadia Methodist Hospital for further evaluation.

Medical Assist: Shortness of Breath

At 2:32 p.m. on March 30, Engine 106 and Rescue Ambulance 106 responded to a medical assist in the 400 block of West Huntington Drive. Upon arrival, fire personnel evaluated a woman suffering from severe shortness of breath. The patient received advanced life support at the scene: 12 lead cardiac monitoring, intravenous access and drug therapy. The patient was transported to Arcadia Methodist Hospital for further evaluation and treatment.
