Police Blotter: Suspect Descriptions in Arcadia Home Invasion Robbery

Police recover evidence from the scene of the alleged armed robbery of a house on Norman Avenue where a family was tied up and assaulted last week.

From the Arcadia Police Department:

For the period of Sunday, June 9th, through Saturday, June 15th, the Police Department responded to 981 calls for service of which 135 required formal investigations. The following is a summary report of the major incidents handled by the Department during this period.

Sunday, June 9:

Around 1:38 a.m., an officer was dispatched to the Entrance Lounge, 80 West Live Oak Avenue, in regards to a battery that just occurred. As two couples were walking through the parking lot, they were approached by ten suspects, possibly Vietnamese, who attacked them and vandalized their vehicle. One of the suspects pointed a gun at the victims and also brandished a knife. The suspects stole one wallet and two purses. Arcadia Paramedics responded to the scene, but the victims declined treatment and were uncooperative with the investigation.

Just after 3:50 a.m., an officer conducted a traffic stop on a vehicle for making an illegal right turn onto Foothill Boulevard, from Baldwin Avenue. The officer discovered the driver was under the influence of an alcoholic beverage. The 27-year-old Hispanic female was arrested and transported to the Arcadia City Jail for booking.

Monday, June 10:

At approximately 3:46 a.m., an officer was dispatched to a residence in the 200 block of Santa Cruz Road in regards to a 9-1-1 hang-up. The officer made contact with a subject standing outside the residence, and discovered he was highly intoxicated and unable to care for himself. The 39-year-old Chinese male was arrested and transported to the Arcadia City Jail for booking.

Just after 11:10 p.m., an officer conducted an enforcement stop on a vehicle for expired registration in the area of Baldwin Avenue and Las Tunas Drive. An investigation revealed the 30-year-old Hispanic male had a suspended license. He was cited, released in the field, and his vehicle was left legally parked.

Tuesday, June 11:

At about 7:26 a.m., an officer observed a truck with an obstructed license plate and initiated a traffic stop in the area of Peck Road and Goldring Road. A vehicle search revealed the driver was in possession of marijuana and numerous items of stolen property including gift cards, two iPads, an iPhone, and other people’s credit card information. The 44-year-old Hispanic male was arrested and transported to the Arcadia City Jail for booking.

Around 9:12 p.m., an officer responded to the 1000 block of Volante Drive in regards to a residential burglary report. Three unknown suspect(s), two males and one female, forced entry through a bathroom window and ransacked the residence. They stole a safe containing jewelry and numerous coins. Video surveillance showed the suspects fled in a dark colored four-door sedan and they appeared to be in their late teens to early twenties. Further investigation is being conducted by the Detective Bureau.

Wednesday, June 12:

Just before 4:00 p.m., an officer made consensual contact with a subject on the northeast corner of Huntington Drive and San Raphael Drive. The officer discovered the subject was under the influence of a controlled substance. The 35-year-old Hispanic male was arrested and transported to the Arcadia City Jail for booking.  

Around 6:20 p.m., an officer responded to the Santa Anita Mall, 400 South Baldwin Avenue, in regards to a theft that had just occurred. The victim accidentally left her cell phone on a table in the food court area. Shortly after, a security officer saw a subject approach the area and take the phone. The 18-year-old Hispanic male was arrested and transported to the Arcadia City Jail for booking.

Thursday, June 13:

At about 11:37 p.m., officers responded to a residence in the 2000 block of South Second Avenue in regards to an unknown juvenile in the back yard. When officers made contact with the subject, they discovered he was bleeding from the head. Arcadia Fire responded to the scene and transported the juvenile to Huntington Memorial Hospital for treatment. An investigation revealed that while the juvenile and his friend were trespassing, his friend struck him in the head with an unknown object and fled the location. The victim would not reveal his friend’s identity.

Shortly after 11:40 p.m., officers were dispatched to a residence in the 500 block of East Norman Avenue regarding a home invasion robbery. After the suspects fled the location, one of the victim’s broke free from his restraints and called 9-1-1. An investigation revealed at least three suspects entered the residence through an unlocked back door and used at least two handguns to direct five victims into the kitchen. The victims’ hands were bound with zip ties and they were blindfolded with duct tape. Two male victims were assaulted with repeated punches and kicks. The suspects were inside the home for over one hour, ransacked the entire residence and the victims’ vehicles, and fled with several items of property.

Suspect one is described as a Black male, approximately 30-years-old, 5’10” tall, 175 lbs., with a thin goatee, wearing a black hooded sweatshirt over his head and dark grey cotton gloves. Suspect two is described as a Black male, in his early twenties, 5’9” tall, 180-200 lbs., wearing a black hooded sweatshirt over his head. Suspect three is described as a White male, approximately 25-years-old, 5’10” tall, 150 lbs., with blond hair, also wearing a black hooded sweatshirt.

Officers recovered evidence from the scene and further investigation is being conducted by the Detective Bureau.

Friday, June 14:

At about 2:49 a.m., an officer responded to a traffic collision on Duarte Road, east of Second Avenue. A driver fell asleep behind wheel and started drifting lanes. The vehicle collided with a curb, struck a palm tree, and finally came to a rest after hitting a light pole. No injuries were reported.

Just after 5:30 p.m., an officer responded to the area of Baldwin Avenue and Duarte Road in regards to a report of a man covering his vehicle’s license plate. Officers located the vehicle and made contact with the driver, a 26-year-old male of unknown race, and passenger, a 27-year-old White female. An investigation revealed the suspects had just stolen from Pavillions, 745 East Naomi Avenue. The driver provided false information and had three outstanding warrants of which two were no-bail felony warrants. Both suspects were arrested and transported to the Arcadia City Jail for booking.

Saturday, June 15:

At approximately 5:00 p.m., an officer responded to Sports Chalet at the Santa Anita Mall, 400 South Baldwin Avenue, in regards to a theft report. A juvenile concealed merchandise inside a used shopping bag and exited the store without making payment. The 15-year-old Asian male was arrested, transported to the Arcadia City Jail for booking, and was later released to his guardian.

Around 8:40 p.m., an officer responded to a non-injury traffic collision in a rear alley located in the 000 block of Fano Street. An investigation revealed two vehicles collided in the alley. One of the drivers, a 67-year-old White male, was under the influence of alcohol. He was arrested and transported to the Arcadia City Jail for booking.
