
Ever since I can remember as being an LA native, there have been heat waves in October. We always expected them, we knew they were coming. So, we lived with it, knowing full well that it’s nature doing its thing. Nothing scary about that.
What is scary is the obvious absence of increasingly more trees in every city. They are being virtually extinguished by property owners and developers. I am frightened at the thought of all those innocent animals that ran for their lives in terror during the California fires. I am horrified to see the many people who died and lost all that they had. Then there was the recent terror in Las Vegas, in a mass shooting, blood everywhere, fun loving people having a good time gone in an instant.
Is there a Halloween costume for that?

How scared do you want to be? Does our society thrive off being frightened and terrorized? Perhaps we have already died in reliving that belief over each year. This is a society that needs to be weaned off its hallowed insensitivity to what is alive and real.
Halloween is one of the busiest nights in the ER. A six-year-old child will knock at my door with fake blood dripping from his mouth. Surely there are more mindful, real, productive, things to do with your child.

Why are we shifting our consciousness from real life terror, to playfully creating even more of it? It doesn’t teach me anything beneficial.
