Berkeley Opens Vaccines To 12-Plus Age Group

The city is operating two vaccine sites this week. One is in Berkeley and the other in Albany.

BERKELEY, CA –

The city of Berkeley announced Thursday it has vaccine appointments available to for kids at least 12-year-old.

The city’s inclusion of that age group’s follows the Pfizer vaccine clearing regulatory hurdles this week.

The vaccine was granted FDA emergency use authorization for 12-to 15-year-olds Wednesday morning and was approved for use in that age group by the Western States Scientific Advisory Group later in the day according to the California Department of Public Health.

Parental consent is required for anyone under 16 years of age to receive the vaccine. A parent or guardian must accompany their child to the appointment.

The city is operating two sites this week that will administer the vaccine to those 12 and older; one in Berkeley and the other in Albany.

The Berkeley site at Civic Park Center (behind 2180 Milvia Street) will be open through Friday from 10:30 a.m. to 6:30 p.m.

Appointments for 12-to 15-year-olds at the Berkeley site are drop-in only.

The Albany site at the Buchanan Street Parking Lot (next to Albany Bulb) will be open through Saturday from 9 a.m. to 5 p.m.

The city is urging those who don’t receive the vaccine right away not to panic.

“If you don’t get an appointment, don’t worry. Supplies are now steady and appointments will continue to come quickly,” the city said in a statement.

“There is a dose for everyone.”
