Berkeley Pier Closure Expected To Last 5 More Years: Report

BERKELEY, CA — The Berkeley Pier is at least five years away from a reopening likely to cost upwards of $55 million, The San Francisco Chronicle reports.

Officials are considering repairing or replacing the half-mile long pier shuttered in July 2015 after inspectors found structural problems, with the hope that its reopening will revive the city’s Marina, the report said.

City officials are also considering adding a ferry, the report said.

After the findings of ongoing studies are released the City Council and ferry board are expected to issue a final recommendation by the end of the year according to the report.
