Berkeley Traffic Stop Leads To Gun, Meth Bust

A traffic stop early Saturday morning led to two arrests according to police.

BERKELEY, CA — A traffic stop early Saturday morning led to the arrest of a suspect on weapons and drugs charges, Berkeley police said.

Officers at around 3:30 am, officers pulled over a vehicle for speeding in the area of Derby Street and MLK Jr. Way and found two of vehicle’s four occupants had outstanding arrest warrants, police said.

Officers searched the vehicle and occupants and found one had an open container of liquor in his pockets and another was armed with a loaded handgun, police said.

Officers also found a baggie of MDMA/methamphetamine inside the vehicle.

The driver, identified as a 23-year-old Oakland man, was arrested on suspicion of carrying a loaded/concealed firearm and possession of a controlled substance, police said.

One of the passengers, a 28-year-old Berkeley man, was arrested on suspicion of outstanding arrest warrants according to police.
