BERKELEY, CA — A Berkeley woman has been identified as the victim of a bicycle-truck crash in San Francisco Friday morning. According to the Medical Examiner's Office, 30-year-old Tess Rothstein was killed at 8:19 a.m. Friday in the area of Sixth and Howard streets .
According to witnesses, Rothstein was riding a bike down Howard Street when someone opened a car door in her path. She swerved to miss the door, but ended up in the path of a truck.
The SF Bicycle Coalition quickly condemned the city, and called for urgent action to add more protected bike lanes. The group said in a press release, "This crash at 6th and Howard was less than a hundred feet away from a protected bike lane that would have saved this woman’s life. Where infrastructure stops, people die."
