Update: Attempted Robbery at Business Causes Brief Lockdown at Berkeley High
No injuries were reported, according to an email sent out by BHS.

A brief 30-minute lockdown was in place at Berkeley High School this morning as police dealt with a reported incident off campus involving a weapon.
The incident occured around 10:20 a.m. Berkeleyside reports, when a man entered a business one the 2200 block of Shattuck Avenue and tried to rob it with a "simulated weapon."

The business did not cooperate with his demands, according to the report, and the man left. An employee then followed him out and called police, who responded within minutes.
The man reportedly went into the downtown post office, the article reports. That was when police set up a perimeter and put Berkeley High on temporary lockdown. Officers detained the man inside the building.

Berkeley Police dispatch told Berkeley Patch that officers are still out at the scene, and it is still an active investigation so not much information could currently be provided.
An email was sent out to parents at 10:57 a.m. by BHS with the following message:
On the advise of the Berkeley Police Department there was a brief lock down during a police action off campus.  The lock down is over.  Everyone is safe. More information will follow.
