Is the City of Berkley overcharging you on you Property Taxes?

City of Berkeley sued for over charging $12,000 on Property Taxes and lost. Want to know if you are being over charged?

Do you have an unfinished basement, crawl space or unfinished attic? According to the City of Berkley's municipal code this space is NOT to be taxed yet the City of Berkeley's Finance Department is "illegally" taxing homeowners for this space. The city has been sued for $12,000 by one homeowner for the over payment of property taxes since they purchased the home. AND WON!

To see if you are being over charged on your property taxes see what the useable or habitable square footage is of your home. This can be found on Alameda County's web site.

Or it can be found on you bank loan documents or appraisers report.

You will need to compare this to the square footage the City of Berkeley's Finance Department has recorded for your home. (This is different from the Building Department.) This is public information but the City keeps in confidential so you will need to call City of the John Zotomayor at the Berkeley Finance Department, Revenue Collection. 510-981-7243.

If these two numbers do not agree you are being incorrectly charged. At this time the city is refusing to correct their records and will continue to cheat you and the citizens of Berkeley on their property taxes.

Would anyone be interested in attending a free workshop at the Berkeley Public Libraries on how to get the money the City of Berkeley cheated you out of back?
