David Lance Goines to Donate Poster Sale Proceeds to Chez Panisse Renovation

Berkeley artist David Lance Goines will donate all proceeds from sales of his Chez Panisse posters through April 30 to renovation of the local restaurant, which was damaged in a fire March 8.

Goines issued his first Chez Panisse poster, "Red-Haired Lady," in 1972 and his most recent, "41st Anniversary," in 2012. In between is a series of anniversary posters, plus occasional others celebrating the restaurant's book releases and other ventures. Signed originals of Goines' limited edition posters are considered highly collectible. Prices in the Chez Panisse series range from about $275 to about $1,500. Not all posters in the series are available.

A fire at Chez Panisse on March 8 damaged top and bottom porches on the front of the Shattuck Avenue restaurant. Restaurant co-owner Alice Waters said last week in a Facebook post that the damage was more extensive than originally thought and that repairs will delay re-opening longer than initially expected.

Early estimates placed damage to the restaurant at between $150,000 and $200,000.
