Fee Hike Proposed For Stormwater Improvements In Berkeley

BERKELEY, CA —As Berkeley braces for a super soaking - five straight days of rain - stormwater system improvements may be on your mind.
The City of Berkeley is proposing a fee increase to improve stormwater flow, the first since a dedicated fee was implemented in 1991. The proposed increase will add $42.89 per year for average single family home.
The city says it needs another $1- 1.5 million each year to sustain basic operations and $1 million for critical capital and to develop a plan for long-term capital.

A public meeting about the proposed increase, along with a hike in street lighting fees, will be held on March 22, 6:30 p.m. - 8:30 p.m., at 1947 Center Street, in the Multi-Purpose Room in the basement.
