Going Green in Berkeley: Brush with Bamboo

Two UC Berkeley alums say their new toothbrush, with bamboo handles and bristles, can help the environment as well as your teeth.

A Berkeley man and his business partner, both UC Berkeley grads, have brought green consciousness to that everyday item, the toothbrush.

Rohit Sahdev of Berkeley and Rohit Kumar of Fremont — they share a first name by coincidence — have founded Brush with Bamboo, a newl manufacturing company with offices in San Francisco and Los Angeles.

Bamboo is a natural for toothbrushes, they told the San Francisco Business Times in a recent interview. It's antimicrobial, so the brushes don't get moldy, and when discarded, the bamboo handles break down in about six months — unlike seemingly eternal plastic-handled toothbrushes.
