A three-year-old horse was euthanized Saturday afternoon after it was injured during a race at Golden Gate Fields, authorities said.
BERKELEY, CA — A horse was euthanized Saturday afternoon after it was injured during a race at Golden Gate Fields, authorities said.
Wire to Wire Tigah, a 3-year-old gelding, was injured Saturday during the running of the ninth race of 11 on Saturday's Golden Gate Fields schedule.
Mike Marten, public information officer with the California Horse Racing Board, which regulates pari-mutuel wagering and enforces safety standards within the state, confirmed a tweet he sent out Saturday: "The 3-year-old gelding Wire to Wire Tigah was injured Saturday during the running of the ninth race at Golden Gate Fields, requiring euthanasia."

The CHRB web site lists 14 other equine fatalities at Golden Gate Fields since Jan. 1.
A phone message left at Golden Gate Fields Saturday night was not immediately returned.

Golden Gate Fields is not open to the public because of the COVID-19 pandemic, but races are being run there and are being livestreamed.
