Journalist Reese Erlich, who has been reporting on the Middle East for almost 30 years, will speak in Berkeley Sunday night about who and what's behind the crisis in Syria.

Erlich, a freelance journalist whose five reporting trips to Syria have included two interviews with President Bashar Al Assad as well as interviews with rebel leaders, will speak at 7 p.m. at Fellowship Hall at 1924 Cedar St.

Erlich reports for a variety of news organizations, including National Public Radio, CBC, Pacifica Radio and Market Place Radio. He's the author of several books, including Target Iraq: What the News Media Didn’t Tell You, (co-authored with Norman Solomon) and The Iran Agenda: The Real Story of US Policy and the Middle East Crisis.

Last year, his documentary, "Inside the Syrian Revolution.” won the best radio explanatory journalism award from the Northern California Society of Professional Journalists.

His Sunday night talk is co-sponsored by the Berkeley Fellowship of Unitarian Universalists and Code Pink. The suggested donation is $5-$10. Organizers say no one will be turned away for lack of funds.
