Best previously served as a Cal student assistant coach while completing his bachelor's degree at the school in African American studies.

“It’s all about the culture,” Best said in a statement.

“I want to create an environment that is about learning and growing, about the value of work ethic and dedication. A lot of people wrote about all the talent I had as a player, but everything I truly earned was through hard work. Football is no different than life. What you put into it, you’ll get out of it.”
