BERKELEY, CA — The Sonoma County coroner's office has identified a driver who died in a solo vehicle crash west of Santa Rosa on Thursday evening as Matthew Taylor, 45, of Berkeley.
Taylor, a former San Jose resident, was driving a 2007 Honda Accord east on state Highway 12 west of Stony Point Road in unincorporated Sonoma County around 5:45 p.m. when he fell asleep or suffered a medical event, California Highway Patrol officials said.
The Honda drifted off the right side of the road and struck a tree. He was taken to Santa Rosa Memorial Hospital where he was pronounced dead at 6:32 p.m., according to the CHP.
