Man Killed In Berkeley House Fire
The home's roof was partially collapsed, so firefighters could not check the home for people until the fire was out.
BERKELEY, CA — A man died in a two-alarm house fire Wednesday night in northwest Berkeley, fire officials said.
The fire was reported at 8:22 p.m. in the 1700 block of Eighth Street.
Fire and smoke were coming from three sides of the single-family home when firefighters arrived, according to Keith May, a Berkeley Fire Department assistant chief and spokesman.

It was too dangerous for firefighters to enter the home to check for occupants because of a partially collapsed roof, May said.
Crews brought the blaze under control at 9:28 p.m. and when they entered the building, they found the man's body. His name is not being released yet because his family has not been contacted.

Neighbors told firefighters that an older man lived in the home and was seen near the location of the body, May said.
Police and fire officials are investigating the blaze.
Fire officials did not identify a cause as of Thursday morning.
