New Pizza Joint Coming Soon To University Avenue In Berkeley

BERKELEY, CA — Pizza Guys, a Sacramento-based pizza restaurant that prides itself on handcrafted pizzas and fresh ingredients, is opening its newest location in early March in Berkeley at 1109 University Ave., and hiring is underway for delivery drivers

The pizzeria will be the 19th location for Pizza Guys in the San Francisco Bay Area and the first in Berkeley. Founded in 1986, the fast-growing chain has 70 stores, primarily in California, plus some in Nevada and Oregon.

The Berkeley shop will be run by Ali Vahdat, a businessman with experience in car sales and real estate, according to officials. It was Pizza Guys' to-go model throughout Covid-19, that convinced Vahdat to join the enterprise.

“Pizza Guys’ model helped it thrive throughout the pandemic,” Vahdat said. “With the delivery and takeout pizza industry continuing to face demand, Pizza Guys is the perfect brand to bring to the Berkeley area.”

Patrons receive meals with tamper-proof packaging, contactless delivery and cashless payments, plus "sneeze-guards" are installed in stores, the company said.

Pizza Guys' pizzas are made with fresh dough and produce, 100% whole milk mozzarella cheese, sauce from California-grown tomatoes and such toppings as "cup and crisp" pepperoni, apple-wood smoked bacon, Italian salami, a variety of veggies, a slew of cheese options and "Impossible Meat."
