NOVATO, CA — The city of Novato is inviting the public to join a virtual budget meeting next month.

The Virtual Community Budget Workshop will be held April 7 from 5:30 to 7 p.m. on Zoom, city officials said.

City officials are hoping to engage the public as it confronts a budget shortfall precipitated by the pandemic.

Facing a $5.7 million deficit in September, city officials approved over $3.5 million in budget cuts, including reductions to both services to the community and staffing levels.

The workshop offers residents an opportunity to learn about the city’s budget, ask questions, and share feedback.

“With the social and economic impacts of COVID-19 on our community, your participation in this year’s budget process is more important than ever,” city officials said in a statement.

Residents can join the meeting directly through Zoom or by calling 1.669.900.9128 (use Meeting ID 981 6782 0511 and Meeting Password 1960 to participate).

Novato residents are also being asked to complete a survey that officials say will help them understand the public’s budgetary priorities that will guide their decisions.

The survey closes April 7 at noon.
