Stranded Berkeley Motorist Arrested On Weapons Charges
An officer who stopped to assists a stranded motorist early Sunday morning found a loaded handgun under the driver's seat, police said.
BERKELEY, CA — A stranded motorist was arrested early Sunday on suspicion of weapons charges, the Berkeley Police Department said.
An officer who at around 1:30 a.m. stopped to assist a stalled vehicle on University Avenue near West Frontage Road saw a loaded handgun under the driver’s seat, police said.
The suspect tried to run away from the scene but other officers in the area responding to a police radio report of the incident found him on the east side of the freeway, authorities said.

The suspect was arrested on suspicion of carrying a loaded/concealed firearm and resisting arrest, police said.
