Suspect Arrested In Shooting Near UC Berkeley Campus
A 26-year-old man was arrested in connection with a shooting just south of the UC Berkeley campus last week.

BERKELEY, CA — A man was arrested Sunday following a shooting last Thursday near the campus of the University of California at Berkeley, police said Tuesday. Rashad Albert, 26, of Berkeley was arrested following the shooting in the area of Telegraph and Durant avenues, just a block from the campus.
At 7:25 p.m., police received numerous reports of gunfire. Officers responded four minutes later to the 2400 block of Durant Avenue and found bullet holes in a business storefront as well as bullet casings on the sidewalk.
Police said witnesses told them that numerous people were nearly hit by bullets. The shooting apparently happened during dispute among several people.

After Albert was identified as a suspect, police obtained a warrant for his arrest. Albert was arrested following a disturbance he allegedly caused at a separate business where he apparently threatened to shoot the employees.
Police said prosecutors with the Alameda County District Attorney's Office Tuesday charged Albert with assault with a deadly weapon, and among other offenses, possession of a gun by a felon.

Police said they identified Albert as the alleged shooter based on surveillance videos and witnesses.
Detective Andres Bejarano wrote in a probable cause statement that
Albert is a gang member. Bejarano said Albert was on probation for possessing a gun as a felon.
