Thick Envelope, Thin Envelope: An Appeal to UC Berkeley
Wherein an East Bay high school senior refuses to take "not admitted" for an answer.

In the midst of college admissions season — when a thick envelope from a university brings smiles and a thin one may mean crushing disappointment — comes a heartening blog on Huffington Post from Kevin F. Adler, who calls himself a "sociologist entrepreneur."
Like many another disappointed applicant to the University of California, Berkeley, Adler received a flat-as-a-pancake envelope from his top choice school.
Unlike many unsuccessful applicants, he didn't leave it at that.

Adler chronicles his reaction, his attempt to gain admission to UC Berkeley after being turned down, and the somewhat surprising outcome.
These days, incidentally, Adler describes himself as the "captain" of inthis.co, a San Francisco-based company that has developed an app to help people organize potlucks.
