UC Berkeley Fires Athletic Department Employee
The move follows a lawsuit alleging sexual assault and harassment, including a lawsuit by a former student-athlete.

BERKELEY, CA — UC Berkeley has fired Mohamed Muqtar, assistant athletic director for student services, after an internal investigation verified claims of sexual violence and harassment against women, according to ESPN. The claims date back nearly 20 years. Muqtar's firing was effective May 11.
The final report, obtained by ESPN, include allegations of physical assault against former Cal basketball standout and current WNBA All-Star Layshia Clarendon.
Cal's deputy Title IX compliance officer Yohance Edwards told ESPN, "Our primary goal as an athletic department is to support and provide an outstanding student-athlete experience, and it pains us to hear about these actions by one of our employees who they turned to as a trusted adviser. The findings described in the report are appalling, wholly unacceptable and have no place in our department, on campus or anywhere."
