UC Police Arrest Teen in BB Gun Attack on Campus

A 60-year-old man sustained minor injuries when he was shot in the back with a BB gun.

University of California police arrested a 17-year-old boy Friday on suspicion of shooting a man on campus with a BB gun.

According to police, officers responded to a report of an assault with a deadly weapon near the Life Sciences Addition on the UC Berkeley campus about 8:39 p.m. on Friday, April 12.

The victim, a 60-year-old man who is not formally affiliated with the university, told police he was walking east on a pathway near Dwinelle Hall when he felt a stinging sensation on the left side of his back.

When he turned around, the victim said, he saw two males who "looked at him as if they had just done something."

Police detained four individuals who matched the victim's description of the suspects.

One of those detained, a 17-year-old wearing a USA sweatshirt, admitted to shooting the victim with a BB gun and was arrested, police said.

The victim sustained minor inuries, police said.
