Celebration Of Life For Arlie Gino Smith, Beloved ‘Costco Guy’

The longtime Costco employee, who was a fixture in the community, was known for his warm smile and fantastic sense of humor.

DANVILLE, CA — Family, friends, and his extended Costco family, including customers, are invited to a celebration of life for Arlie Gino Smith. The celebration will be held at the Community Presbyterian Church in Danville at 12:30 p.m. Nov. 17. Those who attend are asked to wear a Hawaiian shirt in his honor.

Smith, 48, known to most in Tri-Valley as the 'Costco Guy,' died around midnight on Monday, according to his family. The longtime Costco employee, who was a fixture in the community, was known for his warm smile, fantastic sense of humor and his kind heart. He raised thousands of dollars for worthy causes.

The San Ramon native battled Multiple Sclerosis and was diagnosed with terminal bone cancer in September 2015. Smith worked until the very end of his amazing life. Customers, friends and family say he will be missed.

After learning of his death, the UCSF Benioff Children's Hospital Oakland established a donation page in his honor. In lieu of flowers, Arlie's family said he would love for everyone to share in his passion by making a donation in his name. The page has garnered $6,785 since it was established.

The Community Presbyterian Church is located at 222 W. El Pintado in Danville.
