Danville Church Raises Awareness About Teens And Screens
The Community Presbyterian Church is working to help parents and students understand the effects of screen time.
DANVILLE, CA — A popular Danville church hosted a workshop Wednesday night to help educate students and parents about the effects of excessive screen time and the potential impacts of the digital world on children. The Community Presbyterian Church’s K-8 school, San Ramon Valley Christian Academy, and CPC's student ministries teamed up with Teen Esteem's Sean Donohue to host the informative event. More than 350 people attended.
"What made last night so valuable was simply getting parents and kids sitting side by side to engage in honest conversation about such an important topic," Bill Haslim, Pastor for Student Ministries at CPC said. "It’s those kinds of conversations that change families for the better. And Sean pointed out something so important for parents and students alike to hear: As much as kids might feel annoyed by their parents’ rules and restrictions, parents really are the only ones standing between them and so much internet content that can be negatively influential, hurtful, even dangerous."
A church spokesperson said those who attended learned some staggering statistics, including that the average teen spends about nine hours a day on screens.
