DANVILLE, CA — A Danville police officer was placed on administrative leave after firing his gun at a transient man who was hurling rocks at cars on Thursday, officials said. The man reportedly pulled a knife on the officer, who brandished his gun in response, according to the Contra Costa Sheriff's Department.

Officer Andrew Hall — who is assigned to the city of Danville and has been an officer for nearly eight years — was placed on paid leave per department policy.

Tyrell Wilson, a 32-year-old transient, remains in critical condition at a hospital, officials said Saturday. Wilson was reportedly staying in the area of the Danville Sycamore Valley Park & Ride along Sycamore Valley Road.
