Domestic Violence Calls for Assistance in the Tri-Valley

October is National Domestic Violence Awareness month and organizations, including the National Coalition Against Domestic Violence and National Resource Center on Domestic Violence offer information on the topic.

KidsData.org, a program for Lucille Packard Foundation for Children's Health published the 2012 numbers of domestic violence calls for assistance by citizens of any age, by city.

According to the data provided by the site, Livermore has the highest number of calls in the Tri-Valley, with a total number of 261 calls in 212 and is in an upward trend since 2010 when its number of calls reached 248. The numbers dipped down to 194 in 2011. Livermore's numbers were at their peak in 1998, the databank's first year, at 313. The city's lowest point, 128, was in 2009.

Danville had the Tri-Valley's lowest number, with 23 calls in 2012. Danville's peak was in 74 in 2000 and its lowest number of calls, 22, in 2006.

In Pleasanton, 91 calls were made in 2012. The city's peak was 143 calls in 2002 and its lowest number of calls, 90, in 2010.

San Ramon had 45 calls in 2012, its lowest number since 1998. The city's peak year was 2012 with 150 calls.

Dublin also came in with low numbers in 2012, with 48. The city's peak was in 2001 with 97 calls. It's lowest number, 16, was in 2004.

In the state, Los Angeles had the highest number of calls for assistance in 2012, with 19,833 followed by San Diego (7,188) and Fresno (4,889).

Domestic violence is described by California Penal Code 13700 as "abuse committed against an adult or a fully emancipated minor who is a spouse, former spouse, cohabitant, former cohabitant, or person with whom the suspect has had a child or is having or has had a dating or engagement relationship."
