'Golden Tie Night' Fundraiser Raises $200K For Young Athletes

Several Golden State Warriors players and their wives attended the Great Gatsby-themed fundraiser at the Diablo Country Club.

DIABLO, CA — Golden State Warriors players Draymond Green, Andre Iguodala, Zaza Pachulia, Quinn Cook, Coach Willie Green and their wives recently helped raise more than $200,000 for Lamorinda Soccer Club athletes. The inaugural Golden Tie Night fundraiser, which was held at the Diablo Country Club on April 12, was hosted by Diablo resident Charlie Bell, Vice President of Roc Nation. Bell's son, who is a student athlete, plays basketball at the San Ramon Valley Christian Academy in Danville. Bell grew up playing basketball with Durant and is also friends with Green.

"It was great to have all the guys come out and supports us," said Bell, referring to assistant coach Green and the four Golden State Warriors that joined. "And a special thank you to the Danville, Diablo and surrounding communities for their support."

Each year, a local sport organization that provides scholarships for athletes who have the talent, but don't have the financial resources to compete at the elite level will be selected to benefit from the “Help Pay to Play” academy fund.

The evening included a spirited putting contest that paired winning bidders with the Warriors crew. The match came down to Pachulia and guest John Micek against Iguodala and guest Mike Allard. Pachulia and Micek won the competition on Diablo's putting green.

The proceeds from the event will help pay for coaching, club attire, equipment, special training, and travel expenses for student athletes in the soccer club who might otherwise not be able to afford to play. Click here for more information on future Golden Tie Night events or to make a donation.
